ST. JOSEPH'S VILLA

St. Joseph’s Villa is a small building that houses up to 17 people at a time. Many of these abandoned elderly are blind and suffer from many types of disabilities. Located in Dennery, a poor fishing village in one of the most poverty-stricken areas on the island, St. Joseph’s provides a home and love for the abandoned grandmothers and grandfathers, whose families are too poor to care for them for the rest of their natural lives. Adjoining the Villa is St. Joseph’s church, which ministers to more than 5,000 of the poorest of the poor in the eastern half of the island. The church can barely keep itself going, and has greater difficulty in maintaining their home for the elderly.

For three years now, the Frank J. Lewis Foundation and the W. O’Neil Foundation have donated funds that have allowed the Villa to have its dilapidated roof renewed, and the building itself completed with restored walls, new windows and new beds for each of its residents. We are so very grateful for the support of these two Foundations, for we could not have achieved such urgent restoration of the home.

By the same token, the Dominicans, who run the Villa, are always in need of food, bedding, medicines, wheelchairs and toiletries for the residents. The maintenance of St. Joseph’s is not easy, and every donation you give will go totally to the needs of the elderly who live there. You can be assured of their prayers and love. Again, no administrative costs are taken from your donation.
